Interpretation Flashcards
Normal waveform qualities
- sharp upstroke during systole
- reflected wave seen on downslope
Abnormal obstructive waveform
- slow upslope to rounded peak
- downslope that bows away from baseline
Abnormal peaked waveform
- upslope slow
- reflected wave location high on downslope
- has qualities of both normal and obstructive waveform
Other observations
organic (Fixed)
obstructive disease has abnormal doppler arterial signals, systolic pressures and PPG tracing; in vessel all the time
Other observations
functional (intermittent)
disease has normal doppler singals and pressures and/or PPG tracing, but abnormal after cold stress; every so often
Other observations
“peaked” pulse
unique to the waveform contours of pt with Raynauds phenomena
following cold immersion, abnormal cold sensitivity is likely if the amplitude fails to return to baseline within
5 minutes
Digit pressure measurements
UE digits: finger/branchial indices
0.8-0.9
digit pressure measurements
LE digits: toe/brachial index (TBI)
.6-.8
normal toe pressure vary from ____% of brachial p
60-80%
a tow/ankle p cannot be relied upon with
artifactually high ankle pressures
digital artery occlusion
severely reduced pressure
