interphase Flashcards
what occurs in interphase
the cell prepares to divide
Interphase (G1)
growth phase one: assembly of carbs, lipids and proteins, protein called kinase activates
DDI in G1
-density dependent inhibition: tells cells to divide and fill in gap or stop dividing
-Cell division: protein Kinase (activates other proteins/ uses ATP) and where errors are corrected before continuing
Interphase (S)
synthesis: DNA within nucleus gets copied
Interphase (G2)
growth phase 2: doubling of cytoplasm; more protein produced
Histones
Protein which winds up DNA, forms chromosomes (in G2)
Benign tumor
noncancerous; localized abnormal tissue like a mole
Malignant tumor
cancerous tissue; abnormal tissue that spreads to other parts
Metastasis
spread of cancer from where tumor first started to somewhere else through circulatory or lymphatic system
Angiogenesis
formation of blood vessels around tumor which allows tumor to spread
carcinoma cancer
found in organs and glands (epithelial tissue)
Sarcoma cancer
found in bone, muscle, fat and cartilage (connective tissue)
-most painful
Leukemia and Lymphoma cancer
blood cancers
Melanoma
skin deadly
diff. between cancer and normal cells
-loss of contract inhibition
-loss of intercellular junctions (no attachment so it spreads)
-indefinite division
