interocclusal patient records Flashcards
interocclusal record
1) relate the casts for mounting
2) must provide stable vertical and horizontal support
options for mounting
1) dentate
- hand articulation (highest accuracy if their bite is very stable)
- MI record
- prep index
- Cr record (open bite)
2) partially edentulous
- record base in CR or MI
3) edentulous
- record in CR
hand articulation
1) if a stable tripod remains after a tooth or teeth have been prepped, no record is needed
2) use patient’s existing VDO
3) can be hand articulated
4) often most accurate
how to verify MI mouting
1) does it match the articulator mounting
2) for crown case, both the master cast and diagnostic cast should have same inter occlusal relationship
posterior group function
1) no guidance on cuspids
MI mouting
1) when stability is uncertain, capture an MI record in an OPEN bite area
- when there are a lot of open contacts
2) use a horseshoe bite for orientation and trim into useable segments
- if the prepped tooth is part of the tripod, then a prep index record is needed for stability
why would you need a CR record
1) occlusal splint
2) any partial denture case with a CR-MI slide
3) any implant case with a CR-MI slide
4) all full denture cases
5) esthetic restorative case with a CR-MI slide
6) crown case with CR-MI slide
how to check the quality of your CR cast
1) mounting matches the initial CR contact in the patients mouth
2) the dimensions of the slide is the same
case: why is there so much wear on the patient’s left side?
?
CR or MI record bases
1) if most of the posterior teeth are prepped or oppose edentulous spaces, a record base is needed to mount the casts
2) use patient’s VDO for MI record
