Q

When was a time when you were in a setting where you failed and what did you gain from it?

A

When I first moved to California in 2019, I had a set plan and clear goal in my mind of what I wanted to do with my life, but once COVID hit those plans fell through and those goals felt no longer attainable. I hit rock bottom and had no clue what to do and had to rely on those around me for assistance to have a roof over my head and food for the week. Through this, I learned that it’s okay to be a team player and rely on those that care about you and want you to succeed and that sometimes putting your pride to the side is okay to get where you need to go.

Q

What is your experience handling things in your professional life that are beyond your job description?

A

At AVC, I regularly dealt with work that landed outside the scope of my daily duties because my job description was overseeing a computer lab, but in my day-to-day job I worked with students for password resets, help with software issues, and working hand-in-hand with IT.

Tell me about a time you had to make a decision quickly.

A

When working with at AVC, there were times where we had students who were disruptive in the labs. This required immediate attention, especially if we had people in the lab attending Zoom classes and completing exams, so it was important that I could get in the rhythm of my daily tasks and be ready to respond to more urgent matters.

Q

Moments in your professional life that you are proud of?

A

I am most proud of the fundraising opportunities and volunteers that I helped secure as a Website Manager for Tiny Foster Kittens. Strategies that I implemented allowed the rescue to save more lives and support our local communities more effectively.

These strategies included assessing our social media demographics and ensuring that the information we were presenting was clear and accessible to all users. I also tested several different website layouts and formatting to find the best fit.

Q

Tell me about a time you missed a deadline.

A

While working as a Computer Lab Assistant, I forgot to submit my timesheet which required the system admin, aka my boss’s boss, to directly approve my hours. I have had an alarm set for that timesheet ever since.

20
Q

Tell me about a time you received feedback.

A

I’ve been told that I can get too wrapped up in a project because I am a bit of a perfectionist and I like to feel 100% confident in my work. I have a hard time submitting work that I don’t feel proud of and sometimes need to take a step back and recognize what’s working and what isn’t.

21
Q

Describe your past job experiences.

A

In 2017, I completed a summer internship with Rainbow Designs, an IT company in Louisville, Kentucky. I then completed a year at a university with another short-term position the following summer at Powerscreen, where I was a ?. Upon moving to California, COVID made it very difficult for me to secure work, so I was a delivery driver to make ends meet until I secured a position as the Website Manager for a local animal rescue. When I returned to school, I got an on-campus position in one of our computer labs with the IT department. These experiences led me to where I am today and have helped me to realize my potential in my career path.

22
Q

Name a time you went above and beyond in a position.

A

I often went above and beyond as a Website Manager due to the nature of the work I was completing. Working with an animal rescue meant we would face unexpected changes, such as an animal becoming sick and needing urgent medical care. I was responsible for keeping our website up-to-date on information like this and would clock odd hours to ensure this was accessible to our audience.

23
Q

Name a time when you had to work with a difficult group member.

A

While completing my degree at AVC, I had a group project in an Accounting class where one of my teammates did not complete any of the project during its 2 month duration. She was barely communicative and did not seem interested in participating. In the last week, she explained that she was suffering from long COVID and did not want to fail the class. Because part of it was an oral presentation, I provided her with a script to make audio clips for our Powerpoint and guided her through the process. I don’t know her exact circumstance, but I tried to make the best out of this situation.

24
Q

Tell me about a time you had to think on your feet.

A

When one of the printers in our computer lab went down, it was important for me to get it back up and running since it was one of our most popular labs on campus. I called the relevant department for support and assisted in troubleshooting the issue in a timely manner.

25
Q

Tell me about a time you worked on a team.

A

In an Accounting class, I worked on a group project with a team of 4 people. We communicated mostly through e-mail due to conflicting schedules and distributed the work evenly between us. We also committed to a specific timeline for when work should be done. One of our group members did not participate until the final week due to being sick, but it was important to me to make sure that the work we submitted was the best that it could be. I helped to complete her part of the project and we got an A on the assignment.

26
Q

What was your previous role like?

A

My previous role as a Website Manager gave me a lot of creative freedom and flexibility to try out different UX and UI strategies. It was a great opportunity for me to learn and grow in my IT experience while getting to receive feedback about what was working and what wasn’t. It was a small organization, so while there wasn’t a ton of room for upward growth, it gave me a good foundation to be able to apply my skills to a larger company.

27
Q

Any questions for me?

A

What kind of projects can I expect to work on during this internship?

Are there any answers I gave that I could provide more clarification on?

28
Q

Why do you want to work for the United Talent Agency?

A

It would be incredible to get to work with and learn from industry professionals at UTA. I have the drive and the passion to work in this industry and I know that this opportunity would give me the training that I need to be successful in that career path. Not to mention that UTA is a powerhouse in entertainment and I love how there is such a big emphasis on creativity and connection across so many fields.

29
Q

What is your impression of UTA as a company?

A

I admire how UTA has such a broad and diverse client pool from so many different fields, whether its KLUTCH Sports Group or supporting actors in Hollywood or in theater. I also appreciate UTA’s focus on bringing awareness to social issues and the efforts put into making a positive impact on the world through its representation of so many facets of entertainment and media.

30
Q

Who is your favorite client that we represent?

A

As a League of Legends player and a long-time fan, I would have to say Imaqtpie. I’ve watched his Twitch streams for years and love his content. I also really admire Aphromoo and Disguised Toast. Unrelated to the gaming industry, I’ve been listening to Lil Wayne since I was a kid and ?

31
Q

Why UTA over other agencies?

A

UTA stands out to me because of its dedication to authenticity and creativity. There’s a reason that it oversees such a wide range of talent and, compared to other agencies, there is a clear goal of not just representing talent, but caring about all of the people that help to make that representation possible.

32
Q

What makes you want to work at an agency?

A

It is a dream of mine to work in the video game industry and working at an agency like UTA would be a step closer to that dream. I think it would be an amazing opportunity to get a feel for what this industry is all about and see where those steps take me.

33
Q

What do you know about UTA?

A

I know that UTA is a very forward-thinking company that represents a lot of diverse talent. It is a company that cares about its employees and its creators and is known for supporting every field of the entertainment industry.

34
Q

How do you stay current on the industry?

A

I am an avid gamer and consumer of current media. I have a multi-monitor set-up, so I’ve got a Twitch stream open while I’m studying or trying out a new game beta release with friends.

35
Q

Can you name X amount of UTA talent?

A

Gaming - Aphromoo, Pokimane, Disguised Toast, imaqtpie

Music - 21 Savage, AURORA, Lil Wayne, Machine Gun Kelly, Pink Floyd, J. Cole, Flo Milli, Florence + the Machine, 3 Doors Down

Actors -

36
Q

What skills do you think you have that make you qualified to work at a big talent agency?

A

I think that I have the drive that it takes to succeed at a big talent agency. I know that this is what I want out of my career and I will work as hard as I need to to make that happen. I am also confident in the education that I am receiving to support these goals and my dedication to being a part of meaningful projects (such as working with local communities).

37
Q

What is one of the entertainment industry’s most underserved demographics?

A

I believe women are one of the most underserved demographics in the entertainment industry. This isn’t something that is exclusive to this industry, but it is something that unfairly impacts them when it comes to how they are treated and viewed. I think that supporting women, not just as creators, but also in roles throughout the entertainment industry, is an important part of diversity and inclusion.

38
Q

Describe the role in your own words.

A
39
Q

Give me a rundown of how you would diagnose a computer issue.

A

I would make note of what the user tells me is happening and see if there are any error messages or unusual behavior occurring. I would also ask relevant questions about when the problem started, if they made any changes to the device that could have caused the issue, etc.
I would double check that the device has proper power and that all cables and networks are secure and working.
Then, I would determine if it is a hardware or software-based issue.

Hardware - check for loose / damaged physical components in the computer case, test components like RAM, power supply, hard drive, check fans and heat sinks / temperature

Software - boot into safe mode and check diagnostics to see if a driver is causing the issue, check event viewer for error logs, ensure operating system and drivers are up to date, run antivirus/malware scan, identify conflicting software

Check for network/connectivity issues and test other devices to see if its a device-specific problem
Check IP settings and reset network stack if necessary

If needed, move on to advanced diagnostics and reset to a previous version of the device
Reset and reinstall the operating system to restore to factory new settings

I would also document steps throughout the process to recall what I did and inform future diagnostics and inform the user of the steps I took and how to prevent another instance from occurring in the future

40
Q

Can you describe any IT projects you’ve completed as part of your coursework or in your spare time?

A

In my spare time, I’ve worked on personal computers, including installing new RAM, SSDs, and a graphics card into my computer and my partners. I’ve also addressed numerous computer issues that pop up across my own computer and those of family and friends. In addition to this, I’ve spent time on personal projects learning new IT-related tools like Tableau, Figma, Adobe Suite, and programming languages like Java.

41
Q

What programming languages or IT tools are you comfortable using?

A

I have familiarity with Java, Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator, Figma, and Tableau; however, I am still at the beginning phases of programming languages and IT tools as the majority of my work thus far has not required heavy use of them. I struggled a lot financially in the aftermath of COVID and am finally in a position where I have the free time to work on independent projects and hone these skills when I attend UC Santa Cruz and UCLA.

42
Q

What motivated you to choose a career in IT?

A

I have held a special interest in electronics since I was young that went above and beyond the usual love of video games. While that is also true, I realized that I also cared a lot about the finer details too, like how a video game is developed, how to install computer parts, and all of the creative and technical processes that go into IT. I struggled for a while with figuring out the right path for myself when it was in front of me all along - I know that working in technology is where I’m supposed to be and where I can contribute meaningfully.

43
Q

What is your process for troubleshooting technical issues?

A

I start by assessing the issue to determine what I am looking for. Then, I ensure that all of the basics are covered, such as plugs in the right spots and hardware being stable. Next, I determine if it is a hardware or software-related issue and conduct thorough tests and checks to rule out what is causing the problem, including visual inspections, testing temperature and power supply, running antivirus software, booting safe mode, testing network connectivity and service status. I use the process of elimination with these steps to determine the cause of the technological issue and figure out a course of action.

44
Q

How do you stay updated with the latest trends and technologies in IT?

A

Having such a passion for games, I have always stayed up to date with a lot of what is going on in the IT field, whether that’s new software or computer parts. Going into this field as a career, I make it a point to look into new trends and stay on top of how the industry is developing, such as with the implementation of AI engineering.

45
Q

Can you give an example of how you’ve worked as part of a team to complete a project or solve a problem?

A

As a Computer Lab Assistant, I supported our IT department when we transitioned from using Gmail to Outlook. There were several bumps in the road with staff and faculty disliking the new e-mail provider and students struggling against bugs that prevented them from accessing their school assignments. I helped with supporting our students and staff in how to make the transition and in navigating the new e-mail system effectively while providing feedback to the IT department on how to streamline these processes currently and in the future.

46
Q

How comfortable are you writing technical documentation?

A

I do not have much experience with technical documentation, but I have learned many tools in a hands-on manner and am eager to add this to my skills!

47
Q

What experience do you have with databases or data analysis?

A

Professionally, I have utilized databases directly integrated into website builders like Weebly, as well as into social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok. These services provide data and analytics on demographics, user engagement, user interactions, and other metrics to track performance and trends. I have used this information to inform decisions that have seen positive trends in user engagement and performance.

Personally, I have experimented with database tools like Tableau, which is a common software used in UI and UX design, but I am at a beginner level.

48
Q

What are your career goals in the IT field?

A

I would like to work in UX and UI design. My preferred field would be in the video game industry, but I am excited about the entertainment industry as a whole and am open to see where my education and career takes me.

49
Q

How would you handle a situation where a user is frustrated with a technical issue?

A

I would explain the potential errors relating to their technical issue and walk them through the process that I will take to properly diagnose it. I would also acknowledge their frustrations as someone who understands how annoying a technical error can be and keep them informed on the timeframe it will take to fix it. Finally, I would keep them updated with accessible language so that they remain in the loop and can even gain some knowledge about how to troubleshoot and avoid these issues in the future.

50
Q

Can you describe your experience, if any, with cloud computing or virtualization?

A
51
Q

Do you have any experience with IT security? If so, please describe.

A
52
Q

Can you discuss a time when you had to learn a new technology or tool quickly? How did you go about it?

A

I’ve found that a lot of my experiences have placed me in positions where I’ve got to work under a time crunch and learn a new tool or technology. Thankfully, I can approach these situations with a level head and know how to take a step back, identify my main goals and priorities, and apply myself to learning the proper functions to meet those goals as quickly as possible.

Specific example?

53
Q

How would you handle multiple tasks or projects with the same deadline?

A

I would assess the timeline of each task or project and determine which to prioritize based on level of urgency and how quickly I can complete it. Once I have that rhythm down, I am confident in being able to knock out each task within the designated timeframe.
