ARPANET
Advanced Research Project Agency Network; 4 computers connecting 4 universities.
Internet/Internet Working Protocol
Large number of independently operated networks
Internet Service Provider
ISP; Connects devices
Protocol
An agreed upon set of rules and standards used for communication between devices
Internet Protocol
IP; The system that is used to give each device a network location on the internet so other devices may connect to it
IP Address
(4 byte) 32 bits with 8 bits for each section. (IPv4)

Domain Name System
DNS; Find domain names and look up corresponding IP address
Packets
How info travels from one place on the internet to another
Routers
Keeps track of every available route and picks the “cheapest” path for every packet.
Fault Tolerant
A network can still move packets if something goes wrong.
Transmission Control Protocol
TCP; Manages the sending and receiving of data (packets)
Scalable or Scalability
A system can change in size and scale to meet new demands
Redundant or Redundancy
Having multiple routes to a destination
Bit
Any pair of opposites or Binary code
Bandwidth
The limit of how fast a device can send info, measured in seconds
