Internet Of Things Flashcards

1
Q

What is fog computing and what are four benefits?

A

A distributed network that connects the cloud and the edge.
Provides missing link for what data needs to be pushed to the cloud, and what can be analysed locally at the edge.

Benefits:
Security
Privacy
Network capacity constraints
Latency requirements

Q

What are the four generations of the internet?

Give some examples and what kind of connectivity they use

A
  1. Information technology (IT): wired connectivity. PCs, servers, routers, firewalls.
  2. Operational technology (OT): wired connectivity. Medical machinery.
  3. Personal technology: exclusively wireless connectivity. Smartphones.
  4. Sensor/actuator technology: wireless connectivity as part of larger systems. Single-purpose devices, smart fridges.

Q

What is the Edge?

A

A network of IoT-enabled devices, consisting of sensors and actuators which may communicate with each other.

Clusters of sensors may all transmit data to one sensor that aggregates data to be collected by a higher-level entity.
