Internet Connections Flashcards
What are the characteristics of a copper cable?
Cheaper , malleable, lower bandwidth , more likely to suffer from network distortion
What are the characteristics of a fibre optic cable?
Very fast , expensive , higher bandwidth , more fragile
Why do fibre optic cables operate faster than copper cables?
Copper cables are poorly insulated and therefore more open to electromagnetic interference which makes them suffer poor connection however fibre optic cables send signals as waves of light through a glass tube which makes them not suffer from electromagnetic interference
What is Bluetooth?
A temporary short range communication between devices within a limit of about 10 metres
What is microwave?
Users radio waves to send signals across a large area via microwave towers antennas must be in line of sight with no obstructions
What is a satellite?
Uses point to multipoint communication by using satellites above the earths atmosphere that receive a transmission and rebroadcast them back to earth because of the distance between communication device and satellite there’s delay
What is GSM/5G
A technology for allowing mobile phones to connect to a network for calls and text messages
