International Synchrony Flashcards
What is synchronization?
When people carry out the same behavior simultaneously
Where does synchronization occur?
between a mother and infant where their action and their emotions appear to mirror each other
What did Meltzoff and Moore (1967) observe?
interactional synchrony in infants as young as two weeks old
What did the adults do in Meltzoff and Moores experiment?
An adult displayed one of three facial expression and one of three facial expressions.
What was done with the infants reaction to the adults?
It was filmed
What was found?
An association between the expression/gesture of the adult and the actions of the babies
What was found in Meltzoff and moore (1983) study
That infants as young as three days old demonstrated the same synchronized action as mothers
What does Meltzoff and Moores later study suggest?
That interactional synchrony is not a learnt behaviour but rather reflects an innate ability.
What did Meltzoff and Moore conclude?
That the imitation was intentional
