International Standard Atmosphere Flashcards
List from lowest to highest the layers of the atmosphere
Troposphere
Stratosphere
Mesosphere
Thermosphere
Ionosphere
Exosphere
Tropopause height?
11km (36,000ft)
What temperature does the troposphere drop to?
-56.5 degrees C
Atmospheric pressure equation?
P = F/A
Pressure = Force / Area
1 pascal = 1 N/M^2
Give the atmospheric pressure equation that uses density?
P = density (p) x Gravity (g) x height (h)
P = pgh
In PSI what is the pressure for 1 atmosphere of pressure?
1 ATM = 14.7 PSI
In kelvin, what is absolute 0
273.15K
What is the atmospheric density equation?
p = M / V
Density = mass (kg) / Volume (m^3)
What is the relationship between density and pressure with varying altitudes?
Density and Pressure are inversely proportional to altitude (as altitude increases, pressure + density decrease)
What is the relationship between air density and temperature?
Density decreases as temp increases
(Imagine it drys the air out) warm air is less dense than cooler air.
What is the air density lapse rate?
Does not change at a set lapse rate, the rate diminishes with altitude
What is relative humidity?
Amount of water vapour in the air measured against the maximum amount of water the air can hold
In what direction does Dynamic pressure act?
Dynamic pressure only acts in the direction of airflow
What is the equation for dynamic pressure?
q = 1/2 x p x v^2
Dynamic pressure = 1/2 x density x velocity squared
What is the ISA standard temperature in centigrade and kelvin?
15 C or 288.15K
