When was Truman Doctrine published?
March 1947. President Harry S. Truman that the United States would provide political, military and economical support to every country which is under threat from forces in or outside the country
How did USA help non-communist countries fight communism, what did he set up?
Marshall Plan. This puts Truman Doctrine into action, and it was successful to some extent because some communist countries wanted it but were not allowed.
When did Tehran Conference take place?
November - December 1943. Winston Churchill from UK, Franklin D. Roosevelt from USA and Joseph Stalin from the USSR (The Big Three) met there for the first time to talk about the tactics on how to win the war against Germany.
When did Yalta Conference take place
February 1945. Some of the key decisions made were:
- Establishing the United Nations Organisation
- Division of Germany into 4 zones
- Berlin also split into 4 zones
- Similar agreements for Austria
- Free elections in Eastern Europe
- Ballistic States will be part of the USSR
- Stalin would go to way with Japan after 3 months of the defeat of Germany.
When did Potsdam Conference take place?*
July 1945. There were a lot of disagreements during this conference because Winston Churchill lost a General Election to Clement Attlee and due to the death of Franklin D. Roosevelt, Harry S. Truman became the President. Some of the disagreements:
- Truman became angry about the size of reparations as well as the fact that a communist government was set up in Poland. Truman also did not tell Stalin about the Atomic Bomb but due o the Soviet Spies, Stalin already knew. He was also furious because Stalin arrested non-communist leaders.
How did Stalin help communist countries, what did he set up?
Cominform also known as Communist Information Bureau was set up by Stalin in 1947. This was set up in order to tighten Stalin’s grip on the communist countries. The countries were collectivized, centralized and industrialized. This was also followed by the introduction of Comecon
When was the Berlin Wall built?
It was build on 1961 in order to stop civilians from leaving from East to West after the Berlin Blockade. There was a 300 foot-long No-Mans-Land where anyone could get shot at anytime they try to pass through to the west or to the east, followed by some checkpoints. This wall was taken down on 1990 where Germany was reunited.

Mutually Assured Destruction. A doctrine and a policy in which a full-scale attack would lead to nothing but the destruction of both the nations.
