What was appeasement?
Allowing aggressive nations to take what they want in the hope that they stop
Consequences of the treaties?
They have hitler a step up and an easy route into power as many people hated them and he promised to reverse them
What happened in Manchuria?
Japan invaded China and the League of Nations did nothing
What happened in Abyssinia?
Italy invades Abyssinia in Eastern Africa. The Italians had vastly superior weapons and quickly defeated them. The league imposed ineffective sanctions. In secret the British and french foreign ministers planned to give Italy two thirds of Abyssinia in return for him stopping the invasion

Why didn’t appeasement work?
Hitler always wanted more and went back on his promises
Why did people want to appease hitler?
They wanted to avoid another war and they were also more worried about communism
What happened in the Sudetenland?
Hitler wanted the Sudetenland as many of the people living there were German, at the Munich agreement Britain, France, Italy and Germany met to decide its future. It was ultimately given to Germany to prevent war
Who did the soviets side with in 1939?
Germany, they publicly declared that they wouldn’t attack each other even though they were arch enemies
Why did Britain and France declare war against hitler?
He invaded poland
Why did the depression weaken world wide peace?
It was a reason that Japan invaded Manchuria and Italy invaded Abyssinia. It also significantly weakened the League of Nations. What country wants to spend money abroad when it can’t feed its own people
