-government-financed insurance, private facilities/providers
-created in 1966 with 5 principles( portability, comprehensiveness, universality, accessibility, public administration)
-universal access to care
-PCP are privately employed
-most hospitals are nonprofit and privately owned
*each province/territory has a different health insurance plan(like MEDICAID)

Compare drug policies in other countries with the United States

A

in other countries, we have government negotiating prices of drugs ON BEHALF of the country, they decide on a NATIONAL formulary and they decide on patient cost-sharing. Heavy government involvement in drug pricing and payment

in US, it is left up to each individual insurer to negotiate discounts, coverage and patient cost sharing. little to no government involvement

-US spends double the amount per person on pharmaceuticals than other countries
