Definition of aid
Aid is the giving of resources (money, expertise, goods) by one country/organisation to another
Benefits of aid
Money to LEDCs can go towards health, education, improve the quality of life, in time of disaster - save lives
Downsides of aid
If one country given lots of money it can become dependent on that money alone
Short term aid
Given in emergency
Long term aid
Given to a country to develop, this may be through health or education programmes
Bilateral aid
One country gives aid directly to another
Multilateral aid
Lots of governments give money to wold organisations, eg: the UN give it to countries in need
Tied aid
When the country giving money tells the country they’re giving it to how to spend it
Voluntary aid
When charities receive money from the public and use it to organise aid programmes, eg: comic relief
