~6 mil ppl affected
~3 have already completed sentences
SCOTUS cases about disenfranchisement
richardson v ramirez: it doesnt violate the 14th am to deny a person right to vote post-sentence and post-parole

c
this brings us back to bauman, durkheim, and douglas, how
well the paradigm of exclusiona nd punishment AS REINFORCEMENT OF SOLIDARITY IS HUGE
we continue to separate them - the dirty - from us for some semblance of order
arguments for an against felony disenfrancisement
for: they breached the social contract so they dont get privileges anymore, the elections need to be kept pure from these morally unpure,
against: hinders reintegration of offenders back into feeling like theyre a part of our society, perpetuates RACISM!! CLASSISM, subverts democratic process, skews election results hehe, irrational - there are already other penalties
does internal exile align with reasons for punishment (incapciatation, deterrence, retribution, rehabilitation)
well it can continue to incapicatate , deter, retribute, but not rehabilitate at all
