Aligned Spine, long torso, extension lifted through the neck
Open Parallel
Equal on both legs outside of the hips/trunk/ feet forward like 2 parallel lines
Closed Parallel
“Close the gap”, feet inside of the hip structure
Parallel
Position of the feet going straight forward. Feet align to ankles, to knees, to hips, to shoulders, and rest at the neck.
Carriage
How you CARRY weight of your arms
Trunk
The position of your hips or pelvis in movement.
Extend
Elongate a specific body part
Expand
To Grow a movement
Contract
To Shrink a movement
Passe
To Pass/ Foot to Knee in passing, turning, leaping, or standing warm up
Chasse
To chasse the leg (Can be done forward, backwards, sideways.
Grapevine
A traveling step that has a dominant leg and suproting leg crosses from front to back in alteration.
Choreographer
A person who creates or inspires dances to create movement for a variety of different purposes.
Isolation
Moving one part of the body at a time/ check in for body needs
Technique
A portion of warm up that focuses on the alignment, proper placement, and fundamentals of dance movement
Cardio
A set of exercises or dance movements that increases the heart rate. Helps to circulate blood and oxygen flow, as well as sweat out toxins.
Stretch
Increasing Flexibility when muscles are “warm”. Helps with injury prevention.
