Intermediate & Deep (Intrinsic) Muscles of the Back Flashcards
Intermediate Back Muscles
This group of muscles acts with the respiratory system
Deep (intrinsic; true muscles of the Spine)
This group of muscles act mainly on the Spine
Serratus posterior superior: Origin
Inferior aspect of ligamentum nuchae
SPs of C7-T3
Serratus posterior superior: Insertion
Ribs 2-5 lateral to their angles
Serratus posterior superior: Action
Elevates upper ribs
Serratus posterior superior: Nerve
Intercostals T2-T4
Serratus posterior inferior: Origin
SPs of T11-L2
Supraspinous ligaments of T11-L2
Serratus posterior inferior: Insertion
Ribs T9-T12 lateral to their angles
Serratus posterior inferior: Action
Draws ribs outward & downward (opposed inward pull of diaphragm)
Serratus posterior inferior: Nerve
Intercostals T9-T11
Subcostal T12
