What are the eight fixed opined used for?
This is used by a choreographer or teacher to indicate to the dancer where they may begin, travel to or end a dance, or enchainments. And to assist the dance with body alignment.

What is the theory of port de bras?
The theory of port de bras is concerned with the position, opposition and carriage or movement of the arms. Whether you are moving or not, the position of one arm should be balanced or counterbalanced by the other arm.
What is an example of balance and counterbalance?
When one arm moves forward to arabesque the other arm moves correspondingly backwards. The arms balance in 2nd position, and arrive in attitude 2nd arabesque, and 5th en avant at the same time.
What is an example of position and opposition?
When one arm moves up, the other moves down. One arm moves slowly, and the other quickly so that the arms balance each other in 2nd and arrive in either the 4th position or 5th en bas at the same time.
