Interference/Different Communication Types Flashcards
What is attenuation?
Signal Degradation
What is Jitter?
The varying times that packets arrive at a destination; unclear response time.
What is echo?
The repeating of a transmitted signal.
What is SNR?
Signal-to-Noise Ratio; The strength of your current signal compared to the current background noise.
What is EMI/RFI (in radio)
A disturbance generated by an external source that affects an electrical circuit by electromagnetic induction.
What is Crosstalk?
Unwanted transfer of your signal between communication channels.
What is Latency?
The delay (in time) it takes a packet to get from source to destination.
What is Simplex communication?
One-way comms with no return; the equivalent of talking to yourself.
What is Half-Duplex communication?
Two-way comms with only one side allowed to talk at a time; the equivalent of a pair of walkie talkies.
What is Full-Duplex communication?
Two-way comms where both sides can talk at the same time; the equivalent of 2 people talking on the phone.
What is Parallel communication?
Multiple bits are sent across multiple adjacent conductors.
What is serial communication?
Bits are sent one after the other over a single conductor.
