Interfacing and Access Flashcards
control interface
- have access to device
- keyboard, mouse, etc
- requires motor, sensory and cognitive abilities to use these things
selection methods
way in which user makes their selection using the control device
- direct: uses the interface to make selection-requires refined movements
- indirect: steps to make a selection-scanning is most common
scanning
good visual tracking skills, good attention, ability to sequence, very little motor control
direct scanning
control interface is used, device scans through selection set vertically, horizontally, in sets and then user makes the selection
coded access
scanning type, morse code, takes higher cognitive skills
methods of activation
movement, respiration, phonation (sound/voice control)
control enhancers examples
mobile arm supports, typing aids, mouth sticks, head pointers, alternative mouse, joysticks
(indirect)automatic scanning
items presented continuously, can be adjusted for speed, user makes selection when choice is presented
(indirect)step scanning
switch is activated for each item, move through items and then 2nd input when choice is made
(indirect)inverse scanning
individual activates and holds switch closed, when switch is held down, items are scanned, when they want to make choice they release the switch
direct selection
keyboards, pointing interfaces, speech recognition, eye controlled
