Interactions In The Physical Enviroment Flashcards
(26 cards)
What differences would you see in climate between the 6 city’s
It will be colder in St. John’s, prince ruperts and Cambridge bay then it would be in Toronto Calgary and Thunder Bay. It’s colder in St. John’s and prince Ruperts because they are near large bodies of water. Also it’s colder in Cambridge bay due to latitude, it is further away from the equator and the further away from the equator you get the colder it is. Also St. John’s and prince ruperts will receive more precipitation is higher in maritime climates then in continental climates.
What natural vegetation is in Toronto
Deciduous
What natural vegetation is in prince ruperts
West coast forest
What natural vegetation is in Cambridge bay
Tundra
What natural vegetation is in Calgary
Grasslands/boreal and Taiga forest
What natural vegetation is in Thunder Bay
Boreal and taiga forest
What is the difference between coniferous and deciduous
Coniferous: suited for cold temperatures and don’t loose there leaves
Deciduous: not hardy enough to withstand the winter and loose there leaves
What natural vegetation do we live in
Deciduous forest
What type of temperature and and precipitation occurs in the grass lands
The climate in the grasslands is very warm and dry
What type of temperature and precipitation occurs on Canada’s west coast
The west coast is cold and receives heavy rain falls
How does our proximity to the Great Lakes affect our temperature and precipitation
It affects our temperature because they are fairly large bodies of water so it causes where we live to be colder
What part of Ontario is the highest quality soils
The Deciduous forests in Ontario have the highest quality soil
What does the blue and red indicate on a climate graph
Blue is climate red is precipitation
What is the difference between weather and climate
Weather is short term climate is long term
What LOWERN factor would effect Atlantic Canada the most
Near large bodies of water
What is emergency preparedness
Emergency preparedness is planing ahead before a natural disaster happens and having a plan.
What does the government recommend in case of a emergency
Have a evacuation plan, or an safe shelter, have a emergency kit holding every thing you would need in case of an emergency, have a meeting place for families ex.
What is the difference between the leeward and windward sides of a mountain
Windward gets more climate and precipitation then leeward because windward is facing the wind and the wind blows rain snow hail ex. To that side of the mountain
What natural events are of most concern in southern Ontario
Drought floods wild fires and tornadoes
What can we do to stay safe and self sufficient during a severe natural event
We can always stay in a safe environment and never go towards the natural disaster. Also we can be prepared for natural disasters before they happen
What is the biggest and oldest landform region
Canadian Shield
What landform region has young jagged mountains
West cadileal innuition
What landform physically matches the mountain chain in N. Europe
Appalachians
What landform region is the most northern region
Innuitation mountains
