What were the five terms of the Treaty of Versailles and what do they mean?

A
  1. War Guilt - Germany were to blame for all of the war
  2. Reparations - Payments that Germany had to pay, these costs were from all of the damages. £6,600 million
  3. German Territories and Colonies - 10% of their land were lost, e.g the Ruhr
  4. Germany’s armed forces - Restricted army to 100,00 men; conscription was banned; they were not allowed armoured vehicles, submarines or aircraft; the navy could only have 6 battleships and the Rhineland became a demilitarised zone.
  5. League of Nations - Germany were not invited until they had proven that they were a peace-loving country

  2. Conflict in the Ruhr:
    - Germany did not pay reparations in 1922
    - French and Belgian troops entered the Ruhr
    - 100,00 protesters in the Ruhr, 100 were killed
  3. Hyperinflation:
    - Government printing extra money
    - more money in circulation = price increases
    - money became worthless
    - new currency called Rentenmark
