Intensity Flashcards
What is the human frequency range?
20 Hz to 20,000 Hz. As you get older the upper limit decreases.
When is the ear most sensitive?
3,000 Hz. For any given intensity, sounds of this frequency will be the loudest.
Intensity range
10-12 Wm-2 to 100 Wm-2
Threshold of feeling
1 Wm-2
Perceived loudness
The perceived loudness of sound depends on its intensity and its frequency
Relationship between the perceived loudness and the intensity
Relationship is logarithmic
As the loundness goes up in equal intervals if intensity increases by a constant factor.
Defects of hearing
-As you get get older your hearing deteriorates, but higher frequencies are affect most
-Ears can be damaged by excessive noise
For a person with hearing loss, higher intensity levels are needed for the same loudness.
