FUNCTIONS OF INTELLIGENCE

A
  1. The collection or procurement of information.
  2. The evaluation of the information which then become intelligence.
  3. The dissemination of intelligence to those who needs it.
  4. For counter checking.
    Always bear in mind that not all information are of help but there are also information that tends to destroy another, so the best thing that one should do is to evaluate those information. And in the use of this information specially in Police work, try to give only accurate and reliable information in order to maintain the good image of the organization.

The purposes of Law Enforcement Intelligence (covert and overt):

A
  1. To check the condition of the community relating to;
    a) crime - that are often perpetuated
    b) vice - with in the community which then be the course of crime.
    c) Juvenile Delinquency- committed by adolescent individual.
    d) Indication of subversion and insurgency.
  2. Determine through counter intelligence, application matters pertaining to personal security, physical security and document security of the Police Organization as well as other government agencies that needs it.
  3. Determine follow-up leads and helps in the solution of individual criminal cases.
  4. To identify criminal elements and other law breakers as well as their associates.
  5. Assist in the arrest of wanted criminals and those wanted under RA 1700 otherwise known as the Anti- Subversion Law.
  6. To check on the quality and effectiveness of operation of the POLICE.
  7. To check on the security conditions of PNP
  8. Personnel, funds, equipments and materials.
  9. Helps in the prevention and control of crime.
  10. lt serves as a tool of management for planning and organizational employment purposes.
    There are still one possible purpose of Law
    Enforcement intelligence depending upon the needs of the community as well as the discretion of the chief

OTHER FUNCTIONS OF INTELLIGENCE

A

1) To serve all branches of the government.
2) To procure and obtain political, economical, psychological, sociological, military and other information which may bear upon national interest which has been collected by the different government agencies.
3) To collect when necessary, supplemental information either of its own instance or at the request of any government agency and officials from other various sources.
4) To integrate, analyze, process and disseminate to authorize government agencies and officials in the form of report or strategic interpretative studies.
