Insurance Flashcards
When would you need ‘commercial vehicle insurance’ as opposed to business or personal?
Commercial is for taxi, delivery drivers, or driving instructors, where the vehicle is an integral part of the job - so if you are purely delivering/carrying people or goods, that being the core of the job.
I work as a professional delivering my services, i’m using tools, which i carry with me, but i’m not delivering products.
When do you need business cover?
if you are using your vehicle for business over and above commuting to one site:
1) regularly driving to multiple sites;
2) doing large mileage in small amounts of time;
3) carrying clients around;
Why is business cover more expensive?
1) doing more miles
2) driving in rush hour
3) driving in unfamiliar territory
4) parking in unfamiliar and potentially unsecure territory/ locations.
How is business cover priced?
There are 50 vehicle brackets - as you go up the group based on things like engine size, the price goes up.
What are the 3 classes of business cover?
Class 1: insuring yourself and perhaps spouce (but only for standard non-business usage)
Class 2: insuring 2 drivers for business cover;
Class 3: insuring 3 or more drivers for business cover.
Does commuting count as ‘business usage’?
No - and indeed many policies including commuting as part of their standard policy with domestic/ personal use.
You have to give the insurer an estimate of mileage - where can I find my car’s mileage history?
On my last MOT certificate or online on the gov site:
(which appears to show the last 4 year mileage)
