What does insulin do?
Metabolism of glucose, proteins, and fats
Rapid acting insulin
5 to 15 min, peak in 45 to 75 min, 2-4 hr duration (lisp to, aspart, and glulisine)
Short acting insulin
30 min, peak in 2-4 hours, 5-8 hour duration (regular)
Intermediate acting insulin
2 hour, peak at 6-10 hours, 18-28hour duration (NPH)
Long acting insulin
2 hour, no peak, 6-24 hour duration (detemir and glargine)
If a physician orders 10 units of 70/30 U-100 insulin??
7 units of NPH and 3 units of regular
U-100
100 units/mL of insulin
U-500 insulin

What is the measurements used for insulin??

What type of syringe is used for insulin?
ONLY an insulin syringe (orange cap)
What is a sliding scale?
A scale for each patients to determine an appropriate dose of insulin for emergency situations
