Insulation & Condensation Flashcards
Explain dewpoint
At a given level of absolute humidity it is the point at which water will condense and dew will form
And do we ensure that the temperature of the water is above the dew point?
Put the insulation as close to the Outside of the building as possible to keep the heat within the structure.
What are the effects of condensation?
Mould, odours, corrosion of steel, deterioration of decoration, possibility of freezing expansion damage to concrete.
What arensome other causes of damp in buildings.
Rising damp, leaking gutters, leaking pipes, leaking roofs,
Explan vapour pressure and delta p
Vapour pressure is the tendency for vapour to move from more saturated air to less saturated air. Delta p is the difference in vapour pressure levels between the Inside and the outside
Explain valour permiability
It is the extend to which a material permits the flow of vapour through it. It is measured by the rate of vapour transfer per unit area per unit thickness. This can be found in manufacturers data.
What are the three ways of preventing interstitial condensation.
Vapour barriers near the inside, dehumidifying the air inside, ventilate the cavity.
