Insulation Flashcards
1
Q
What is insulation?
A
Insulation is a process used to avoid unwanted heat transfer into the surroundings.
2
Q
How does evaporation reduce heat transfer?
A
When a liquid evaporates, its thermal energy is transferred into the surroundings. The evaporated particles take lots of energy with them and so the remaining liquid cools down.
3
Q
What are some features of an insulator?
A
- made out of non-metallic materials e.g. glass, plastic, wood
- durable and resistant
- don’t allow heat and electricity to pass through them easily
