What occurs in the sampling process
A few milligrams of sample is mixed with a generally organic solvent so that a homogeneous solution is formed and placed into a glass tube
Explain what the instrumentation does to analyse the sample
1- Places the sample in a magnetic field (B0) to generate two accessible energy levels for the nuclei.
2- Irradiate the sample with an electromagnetic radiation of varying wavelength (l)
3- Detect the wavelengths that correspond to energy transitions between the accessible energy levels.
4- Processing of the detected signals and print out the result/save file.
Why is the solvent used to prepare the sample deuteriated
This is because if not the H would appear on the analysis interrupting the results
