- mean IQ is higher if adopted before 6 months
- lowest IQ adopted after 2 years
- after 6 months = disinhibited attachment = clingy, attention seeking

- 19% securely attatched
- 44% disinhibited
- higher results than contol group
- impact of instionalisational care = multiple carers, not forming a primary attatcment lead to secure attatchment
- can be overcome if adopted before 6 months
