Installation Of WM For A Past Master Flashcards

Q

(1) address to WM and presentation of WM-elect

A

WBro Sec. you will now read the Minutes of the Election of Officers and the authority from PGL for the Installation.
Bro Master-elect, please rise.
W Bro George Leung, by the unanimous consent of your brethren in this Lodge,
And confirmed by PGL,
You have been elected to fill the important and responsible office of WM for the usual time.
It’s an important office, because it’s the highest honour the brethren of the L can confer on you,
And responsible, because with you will be the control of the L for your period of government.
As by the carelessness and inattention to your several duties, you might hurt or mar the reputation of the L, so on the other hand, by careful attention, regular attendance,
kindness and courtesy to your Officers and Brethren, you may support the dignity of your Officer, and add distinction to the L.
We therefore ask you not to approach the duties of the Office lightly, or thoughtlessly,
But rather with a sincere desire to give of your best in service to your brethren, who have so highly honoured you.
Brother, be seated.

WBro DoC, you will now form the procession to present the Master-elect.

(2) Address to WM (2)

A

WBro George, at your initiation, the special importance of the Master in the L was explained to you;
You are now about to occupy that exalted position which you may well considered to be the summit or coping stone in Ancient Craft Masonry.
There’s no greater honour to which a Mason can aspire than that of sitting in the seat of Solomon as Master of his L.
But before I can place you in that Chair, invest you with the appropriate insignia, place in your hands the implements of your high office and entrust you with the secrets of the Chair degree,
It is required that you give in open L your audible assent to the Old Charges, which have come down to us from time immemorial and you will observe that notwithstanding their acknowledged antiquity,
They are still applicable to the conditions of the present day,
as if they have been compiled for this very occasion.
It’s also ordered that they be read and not recited, so that the exact wording may be preserved.

A

Then, Bro, in consequence of
the recommendation I have received of you, and
Your cheerfully conformity to the Charges and Regulations rehearsed, and
Since it is the will and pleasure of the B of this L that you become Master thereof for the usual time, as they confide in your known good behaviour and deem you a fit and proper person to discharge the duties of said office,
I am ready and willing to admit you thereto and install you therein cautioning you that you are not only to walk uprightly before God and Man and
Strictly to maintain the Ancient Landmarks and Constitutions of FM in general, but also
To obey the Laws of GL and the By-laws of this L in particular, which shall be delivered to you along with the implements of your office.

Q

(6) address to WM elect (for past M)

A

WDoC, are you satisfied that all present are Installed Masters?

WB George, at your installation on a previous occasion, you took an Obligation of an Installed Master. As was pointed out to you on that occasion, that Obligation is taken only once and is binding upon you for any other time you may be called upon to act as WM of a Lodge.

You have been elected by your brethren to once again occupy the Chair of this Lodge as WM and it’s not necessary for you to once again take that Obligation. However, it’s been some time since you occupied the Master’s Chair so I would like to call upon WBro Alex Lee to remind you of the various signs of an Installed Master and the manner in which I will install you in the Chair.

WM, 1st I deliver to you this Maul, which shows your authourity to the B, testifying to them to whom the title of WM belongs
2ndly, I invest you with this Collar and Jewel, as the insignia of your office and ornamental badge of Freemasonry, that have with pride been worn at all times by M of Lodges.
Observe, the jewel is a Sq denoting in its Moral sense that you are always so to square your life and action as to convince all men that you are worthy of the pre-eminence conferred upon you; and
In its Masonic sense, that as when applied to work it shows whether it be straight, even and correct so
it is to remind you that it should be your constant care to see that not only your own conduct and actions, but also those of the B entrusted to your charge, are straight, even and correct.
3rdly, I render unto you the VSL, which contain the rules and precepts whereby all men, but particulary FM, ought to govern and regulate their entire course of life
4thly, I give unto you this Book of Constitution of FM together with the By-laws of the L, by which you are to regulate your conduct as WM and to direct the actions of those under your authority.
Lastly, I hand over to you the Warrant of this L, being the authority under which its meetings are held.
