Inspector goole Flashcards
‘public men have responsibilities as well as privileges’
-emphasis on priestley’s overall message= social responsibility is a MUST
- those in power= duty to help all not just themselves
-power and responsibility= never seperate
‘We don’t live alone. We are members of one body. We are responsible for each other.’
-constant reminder= actions have consequences
- shows us to be mindful & considerate when around others
-stresses the fact that societies are made to help one another rather than just yourself
‘If men will not learn that lesson, then they will be taught it in fire and blood and anguish.’
-respect & morality isnt determined by ones status/ financial state
- everyone must be respected and treat with dignity
- those unable to accept this will face the consequences
‘you think young women ought to be protected?’
-Inspector- controls the narrative
-Mr birling= uncomfortable with this shift so immediately tries to take it back
- Contrast between birling and goole= holds power that Birling doesnt have even through different status
