A girl called Eva smith dies via suicide. The Birling family are visited by inspector goole, who reveals they all had a part to play in her death. He goes around exposing their sins and gets them all to confess to what they’ve done. The family are all investigated by the all knowing inspector, and the play ends where it began - with a phone call saying an inspector is on his way and a girl had died in the infirmary
