Inspection gauges Flashcards
Why are fixed gauges better than precision measuring devices?
They have the ability to be very accurate with little skill and can be faster in production environments
What is a cylindrical plug gauge?
it is a device that measures a tolerance of an inside diameter. (ex: checking a bore that has been made)
If the GO ZONE does not fit inside the bore, the whole is to….?
The whole is to small
What is a plain ring gauge?
A plain ring gauge is a piece that has an external diameter set and measures the outside diameter of a workpiece to ensure the proper size
If the GO zone fits inside the bore, the whole is……?
The right size
If the NO GO zone fits in the bore, the whole is to…..?
to large
How can you identify the NO GO plain ring gauge?
It is identified by an annular groove cut into the knurled periphery of the gauge
If the NO GO zone fits over the shaft, it is to…?
It is to small
If the GO ZONE of the plain ring gauge does not fit over the shaft it is to….?
It is to large
What is a tapered plug gauge?
It is a tapered shaft that is inserted in a tapered whole to ensure the proper angle is made on the tapered bore
Do you rotate a tapered plug gauge clockwise or counter clockwise to test its fit?
You rotate in counter clockwise
Do you apply pussian blue on tapered plug threads?
yes
What is a threaded plug gauge?
It is a threaded piece that you insert into the work piece to check mainly the thread diameter
How many threads should the NO GO zone on a threaded plug gauge go in before it stops?
No more than three threads but ideally you do not go further than 1.5 threads
