Least Restrictive Environment:
(Only provide the modifications as necessary) Make a set up where it is as normal least restrictive as possible while still addressing the students needs.
Meeting the Needs of Second Language Learners:
- Implement varied and effective research-based teaching and assessment strategies that align with the learning styles of all students.
- Ensure that all students are in a learning environment that encourages them to participate fully in class discussions and science activities and investigations.
Inclusion:
Term used to describe disabled students being educated, to the extent possible, in the least restrictive environment.
IDEA:
Individuals with Disabilities Education Act: Ensures free, appropriate, and equitable services, in the least restrictive environment, for children with disabilities.
IEP:
Individualized Education Plan
Program Standard E and Guideline:
- All students in the K–12 science program must have equitable access to opportunities to achieve the National Science Education Standards.
- All students, regardless of sex, cultural or ethnic background, physical or learning disabilities, future aspirations, or interest in science, should have the opportunity to attain high levels of scientific literacy.
Science Talk:
Another way to help all children understand and value science is to engage the children in science talk.
Four Strands of Science:
- Strand 1: Know, use, and interpret scientific explanations of the natural world.
- Strand 2: Generate and evaluate scientific evidence and explanations.
- Strand 3: Understand the nature and development of scientific knowledge.
- Strand 4: Participate productively in scientific practices and discourse.
