Input - scanners and cameras Flashcards
Name two input devices used to input images into the computer
Scanner and Digital Camera
three main advantages of digital cameras(other than cost related)
- ) Allow you to take thousands of photos (depending on the size of your memory card)
- ) you can see the images immediately
- )you can easily transfer the images you want to edit to a computer (because you’re already in digital format)
what is a pixel and what is its relationship to the quality and physical size of a digital camera
Pixels are the basics of a digital camera. They are small dot like elements that make up the image. The more pixels used to form the image the better the quality of the image and the more space it will take to store the image.
How can you transfer images form your digital camera to your laptop without a USB?
You can take out the memory card and insert it into the laptop directly or by using a card reader or you can transfer them wirelessly.
15 MP and ISO 6400 - what is the significance and what do these represent?
The MP is the total number of pixels that make up the picture. the bigger the specification the better the image quality.
The ISO rating refers to how sensitive the camera sensor is to light; how good the camera s with taking photos in low light.
What is the advantage of larger lenses?
They capture more light, which improves image quality and detail.
what does a DSLR camera allow you to do that a point-and-shoot- camera doesn’t allow you to do?
allows you to change lenses
What is the problem with digital zoom as opposed to optical zoom on a digital camera?
Optical zoom lenses uses lenses on the camera to get closer to the object being photographed.
digital zoom reduces resolution and pixilates the image
What does hardcopy refer to?
texts and images printed onto paper
How can someone edit the exam paper in their word processor?
scan the hard copy with a scanner as an image. use the OCR software to recognize the characters and convert the image to document that can e edited in a word processor.
How can you reduce the size of the stored image?
- reduce the resolution at which the image was scanned
- reduce the color depth/ scan in grey scale
save in a compressed format, such as a jpeg.
Give two benefits a bar-coding system provides?
- better stock control
- increased accuracy
- speeding up checkout processes (libraries and POS systems)
What is the main purpose of a scanner?
scan images to convert and store them in digital format.
Give three advantages of having data/images scanned and stored in digital format
- scanned copies can be emailed instead of faxed
- electronic copies do not take up office space such as paper files.
- large documents of many pages can be scanned into s single digital file.
What is a potential drawback of scanning ALL photos to preserve them?
- scanning can be slow and take time.
- the quality of digital images can depend on the quality of the original photos.
