What is RAM?
Random Access Memory. Used to store the instructions and data for programs currently in use. It is volatile, meaning it loses all of its data when it loses power.
What is ROM?
Read Only Memory. Used to store data that needs to permanently be in memory, for example programs that needed when the computer is started up.
What is virtual storage?
When the computer runs out of RAM to load new programs into, a section of the secondary storage is designated as virtual storage. This can then act as RAM. The downside of this is accessing secondary storage is much slower than accessing RAM, so it slows down the computer.
