innervations to compartments of upper and lower limbs Flashcards
what nerve innervates the anterior arm
musculocutaneous nerve
what nerve innervates the anterior forearm
medial nerve innervates all but flexor carpi ulnaris and half of flexor digitorum profundus, which are innervated by the ulnar nerve
what nerve innervates the posterior arm and forearm
radial nerve
what nerve innervates the anterior thigh
femoral nerve
what nerve innervates the posterior thigh
sciatic nerve
what nerve innervates the medial thigh
obturator nerve
what nerve innervates the anterior leg
fibular nerve
what nerve innervates the lateral leg
fibular nerve
what nerve innervates the posterior leg
tibial nerve
what type of nerve runs through the anterior grey horn of the spinal cord?
efferent (motor) neurons
what type of nerve runs through the posterior grey horn of the spinal cord?
afferent (sensory) neurons
what type of nerve runs through the lateral grey horn of the spinal cord?
efferent (motor) neurons
are efferent neurons motor or sensory
motor
are afferent neurons motor or sensory
sensory
what are the input roots of the brachial plexus
C5 - C8 and T1
what are the final outputs of the brachial plexus
musculocutaneous, radial, axillary, median, ulnar
what cell myelinates the PNS
schwann cell
what cell myelinates the CNS
oligodendrocytes
what is the function of schwann cells
myelinate PNS by wrapping around axon to increase speed of neural transmission
what is the function of oligodendrocytes
myelinate CNS by wrapping around several neurons to increase speed of neural transmission
what are actrocytes and what are their function
branched glial cells that provide a barrier between nervous tissue and the blood. they stimulate capillaries in the brain to form the BBB, they feed the neurons, release nerve growth factors, play role in synaptic transmission, and form scar tissue when neurons are damaged. they also inhibit some meds from reaching brain
what are microglia and what is their function
small phagocytic glial cells that digest foreign particles that invade the nervous tissue and remove dead or damaged neurons. also actively sample brain tissue for damage or inflection in resting phase.
what are the function of ependymal cells
line the spaces of brain and spinal cord and secrete and circulate cerebrospinal fluid
what vertebra constitute the cervical plexus
C1-5
what vertebra constitute the brachial plexus
C5-T1
what vertebra constitute the lumbar plexus
L1-4
what vertebra constitute the sacral plexus
L4-S4
how many pairs of cervicle nerve are there
8 pairs
how many pair of thoracic nerves
12 pairs
how many pairs of lumbar nerves
5 pairs
how many pairs of sacral nerves
5 pairs
how many pairs of coccygeal nerve
1 pair
where is the lumbar enlargement
at T10 (3 away frm bottom of thoracic nerves)
where is the cervical enlargement
at C5, end of cervical plexus
where is the medullary cone
T12, end of lumbar nerves
where is the cauda equina
L4, near end of lumbar nerves
