Area can be improved in appearance with more wealthy residents moving in
Smart cafes and bars often open with new influx of wealth
Old buildings are preserved and maintained
Streetscape improved with trees and new facilities
New businesses move in
Disadvantages of gentrification
Sense of community undermined for original residents
Original residents would prefer a small corner shop and don’t value or can afford new services like coffee bars
Price of renting or buying properties as the area becomes gentrified pushing locals out
Differences between earthy newcomers and poor original residents cause resentment
Small businesses move out and low income families move out
What are some traffic Issues
Not designed for as many cars
Most people park cars in inner city
Leads to congestion- poor air quality as cars sitting running
How does journey time affect
London- Estimated to cost about 4 billion a year as it effects business productivity and economy
Public transport- slower more expensive
