injury to long thoracic nerve
no sensory impairment
motor impairment: winged scapula, cuz paralysis of serratus anterior
injury to musculocutaneous
sensory impairment: lateral surface of forearm. [[lateral cutaneous N of forearm]]
motor: paralysis of coracobrachialis, biceps brachia, brachialis. –> Impaired flexion and supination of forearm
Injury to Axillary N
sensory: lateral surface of shoulder
motor: shoulder weakens, especially with ABDUCTION (teres minor, deltoid)
Injury to Median N
sensory: anterior thumb, palmer surface, anterior first 2 and 1/2 fingers, posterior distal joint of first 2 1/2 fingers
motor: loss of thumb opposition, decreased abduction of thumb, loss of flexion of proximal and distal interphalangeal joints.
“pope’s blessing” or “ape hand”
Injury to Ulnar N
sensory: medial surface of hand/palm. Medial 1 and 1/2 fingers
Sensory: loss of flexion at 4th and 5th fingers, loss of thumb adduction, loss of ability to oppose and abduct 5th fingers - claw hand.
