Q

What are the three types of knee injuries, the causes and tests?

A
  1. MCL - Force from lateral to medial by planted foot. Valgus stress test
  2. ACL - Cutting or turning. Landing or sudden deceleration. Anterior Drawer, Lachman drawer test.
  3. Meniscus - Compression, tensile and shear forces, landing and turning quickly, repeated deep flexion. McMurrays test.

Q

What are the signs and symptoms of each knee injury.

A

MCL - Unable to fully extend leg and walks on ball of foot, pop sound.

ACL - Pain is felt deep and anterior, popping, snapping or tearing sensation, rapid swelling, knee giving out feeling.

Q

how to preform lachmans drawer test

A

Supine position and knee at 30 degrees. fixate femur, other hand above ankle, externally rotate to isolate tibia. move to underneath knee, palpate femur and abduction with other hand. Positive if soft end feel or tibia translates more than 3mm more than uninjured leg.

17
Q

how to preform mcmurrays test?

A

Supine position. Leg at 90 degrees, flexing the hip as well. palpating the joint line and preforming extension. Preform with hip open and closed to find exact tear. Popping will occur with positive result.
