What are MDIs?

A

These are metered dose inhalers with pressureised canisters. They must be shook well before use, and 30 seconds gap should be taken between each dose. This is all about slow and steady inhilation.

What are Combination Inhalers and examples?

A

These are LABA combined with corticosteroids because a steroid must be used with LABA, so this makes it easier to patients as they don’t need 2 seperate inhalers.
eg. Symbicort - LABA and corticosteroid
Advir, qvar etc

WHat are Dry powder inhalers?

A

These are when the drug is as a powder in a capsule in the inhaler. The patient must breathe hard, fast and long with these to release the drug from the carrier (ex carrier is Lactose)

Why are spacers used?

A

These are useful for MDIs becasue they avoid the need for coordination, and captures the aerosol in the spacer so patient can breathe as required. Must be cleaned regularly. No whistle sound should be heard.
