Inguinal Canal Flashcards
Where is the Inguinal Canal?
From the ASIS to the Pubic Tubercle
Where do the testes originate from and what layer embryologically derived from?
It is derived from the intermediate mesoderm and the posterior abdominal wall.
What is the function of the gubernaculum?
The gubernaculum helps the testes descend from the abdominal cavity. The testes will then follow the contraction of the gubernaculum which passes through multiple muscle layers. Migration ends in the scrotum.
What is the remnant of the gubernaculum for guys? girls?
gubernaculum remnant for guys–> scrotal ligament
gubernaculum remnant for girls–> round ligament of the
uterus
What layers make up the spermatic cord?
transversalis fascia, internal oblique muscle, external oblique muscle
What makes up the scrotum proper?
Dartos Fascia + Skin
what are the original layers that made up each part of the testes?
Dartos Smooth Muscle–> Scarpa’s Fascia
External Spermatic Fascia–> External Oblique Muscle
Cremaster Muscle–> Internal Oblique Muscle
Tunica Vaginalis–>
Parietal & Visceral Peritoneum-Derived
What innervates the cremaster muscle?
Genitofemoral Nerve
What is the Dartos Smooth Muscle under control of?
Sympathetic Innervation
The Scrotal Blood Supply is divided:
Anterior Portions of the Scrotum
Posterior Portions of the Scrotum
Anterior Portions of The Scrotum–>
blood supply occurs from the anterior scrotal branches from the pudendal artery
Posterior Portions of the Scrotum–>
blood supply occurs from the posterior scrotal branches from the pudendal artery
The nerve innervation of the scrotum can be divided into both anterior and posterior portions of the scrotum.
Anterior Innervation–> Branches of the Ilioinguinal Nerve
Posterior Innervation–> Branches of the Ilioinguinal Nerve
The nerve supply to the anterolateral portion of the scrotum?
The genitofemoral nerves
The nerve supply to the postero-inferior portion of the scrotum.
Perineal Branch of Posterior Cutaneous Nerve of Thigh
Cremaster Muscle + External Spermatic Fascia
Afferent (Sensory): ilioinguinal nerve
Efferent (Motor): genitobranch of the genitofemoral nerve
What artery supplies the testicle?
The testicular artery and gonadal artery for the reguvination of the Leydig and Interstitial cells of the testes.
