Infrared Radiation Flashcards
What’s the wavelength range of infrared radiation?
The wavelength of infrared radiation ranges from 0.75 µm to 1000 µm.
Note: µm stands for micrometer or 1 millionth of a meter (10-6 meter). This length is usually called a micron
What is Infrared radiation?
Infrared radiation is a type of electromagnetic radiation
Some atmospheric molecules absorb IR so what ones?
water vapor (H2O), carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and ozone (O3) molecules in the atmosphere absorb much of the infrared radiation coming from the Sun.
How to detect Infrared radiation or know as thermal radiation.
Infrared radiation is sometimes called thermal radiation, because warm or hot objects emit infrared. Creation and detection of radiation is usually created or given off by warm and hot objects. It is detected by its property of increasing the thermal energy of objects.
