By reducing the cost of processing, transmitting, and obtaining information allows companies new ways to outperform their rivals.

IS help the company manage all aspects of customer encounters which can develop new products + services for the customer, this creating new company processes

How do organizational structures and organizational change affect the performance of information systems?
Organizational structure helps the information systems operate properly as others structure but organizational change can lead to poor performance for IS as employees do not know how to use this new IS. Can be avoided by preparation.

Outsourcing-using other companies services e.g. job hiring
On-demand computing-pay for computer resources e.g. Hardware, software, databases
Downsizing- reducing amount of employees
Organizational learning- adapting to new conditions
What is the value chain?
A series of activities
