Information Systems Flashcards
Define the term ‘System’
A system is a group of components working together to achieve a task or purpose
What are the 7 Information Processes?
Collecting, Organising, Analysing, Storing/Retrieving, Processing, Transmitting/Receiving, Displaying
Identify the 3 parts of Collecting.
- Defining what to collect.
- Locating the data.
- Gathering/Entering the data.
Define Organising.
The process of arranging and formatting data.
Giving data structure.
Define Analysing.
The process that interprets data and transforms it into information.
Define Storing/Retrieving.
Storing: Saving data for later use.
Retrieving: Obtaining data that was previously saved.
Define Processing.
The manipulation and creation of data and information.
Identify the 4 stages of the Fetch/Execute cycle.
Fetch, Decode, Execute, Store
Define Transmission/Recieving
The transfer of data between information systems or within information systems.
Define Displaying.
The presentation of information within an information system.
What are the two parts of Purpose?
- Who is it for?
- What are their needs?
What 3 things are under the information processes in the diagram.
Participants, Data/Information and Information Technology
Define the User
Anyone who makes use of information from an information system.
Define Participants
Anybody involved with the information processes
Define the Environment
Anything that has an impact on or is impacted by the information system.
Define the Boundary
The delineation point between the information system and the environment.
Define a Decision Support System (DSS)
An information system which aids in making decisions.
Define an Expert System
A system which is used in areas which would traditionally require an expert.
Define Transaction Processing Systems (TDS)
Systems that provide users with the ability to transfer funds online.
