Transaction processing system
systems for processing routine transaction, such as bookkeeping system and sales order processing system
Management information systems
Systems for providing information, mainly of routine nature, to management for planning and controlling
Decision support systems
Used by managers to help them to make decisions of a more complex or ‘unstrautured’ nature. A DSS will include a range of decision models, such as forecasting models, statical analysis models and linear programming models
Executive information systems
Give an executive access to summary information about a range of issues, and also drill ‘down’ into greater detail if this is required.
Expert systems
A system that is able to provide information, advice and recommendations on matters related to a specific area of expertise
