Invaded in small groups from Denmark and Northern Germany. They worshipped many Gods. Language and places

They wanted better oppertuntities. And life was hard in the caribbean such as the earthquake in Jamaica

The British Nationality Act meant that the Commonwealth were allowed to live and work in Britain.
What jobs did the South Asians mainly have?
Ayahs( childrens nannies), servants, lascars(sailors), students, officials, doctors, tourists and business men

A lot of violence in South Asia. British passport holders. Suffered from cyclones, floods and famines.
What was Enoch Powell’s speech about?( The Rivers of Blood)
Enoch Powell was unhappy about the amount of immigrants coming to Britain he said if you want an immigrant as your neighbour vote labour. He knew he would get some people to agree with him
Why did thousands of people leave ireland?
Thousands of families left because of rising rents and prices, bad landlords, poor harvests and a lack of jobs. But it was mainly the Potato Famine which destroyed harvests for potatoes which was the main food that Irish ate and made money from
What happened at the Peterloo Massacre?
Working class people held large meetings to protest against the political system. One big meeting took place in Manchester, St Peter’s Fields in 1819. 11 people were killed and 400 injured. The government treated it badly and congratulated the army.
What did the Great Reform Act state?
- One in five men- those whose homes had a lease of £10 or more per year got the vote
- Seats must be created for MPs in new idustrial towns such as Birmingham
- Seats for MPs from rotten boroughs had to be removed. A rotten borough is a borough who could elect on MP eventhough they will get barely any votes.
