What are the symptoms of influenza?
an infection that starts in the upper respiratory tract, with coughing and sneezing, spreads to give aching joints and muscles, and produces a fever that makes you feel awful; but usually it has gone in
5-10 days and most people make a full recovery.
What is antigenic shift?
In regards to influenza, this only occurs in influenza A viruses.
Associated with severe pandemics
Antigenic shift refers to the change in surface antigens which results in new strains of the virus.
The two antigens important in influenza are Haemagglutinin and neuraminidase
What is the transmission route for the influenza virus?
Aerosol droplets
