Influences on coastal environments Flashcards
What is an example of a marine factor?
Waves
How would waves influence landforms?
Waves are made up of different energies. Constrictive and destructive. Cause erosion.
What is one sub-aerial factor?
Any form of weather like rain.
How can rain influence the waves?
excessive rain can increase wave height.
What other weather form impacts waves?
Wind, stronger winds create higher waves therefore more erosion can take place.
Name one human factor.
Conservation management
No form of coastal management, what can happen at the cliffs?
have greater erosion.
What do plants growing at the cliffs cause to happen?
Roots can grow into the rock making it weaker i.e., biological weathering.
What is a tectonic activity that could take place and impact the coast?
Coastal uplift, seabed becoming taller.
What does coastal uplift cause the waves to do?
More friction between the water and the seabed, waves increase in height and energy=more erosion.
What is a geomorphological factor?
rivers
How do river have an impact?
Potentially add more sediment t beaches and depositional landform. Sediment can be transported down the river via. solution.
What is geology?
Rocks
What happens if the soft rock is predominant at the coast?
easier to erode.
Hard rock at a coastline?
Still erode but not as quickly.
