Influences of Human Activities on Climate Change Flashcards

1
Q

investigate any influence that human activities may have had on the environment since the Industrial Revolution, for example:
- ocean acidification

A
  • The warmer the atmosphere becomes, the less carbon dioxide the atmosphere absorbs, so it is dissolved by oceans; it reacts with ocean water to form carbonic acid, decreasing pH levels releasing hydrogen ions to make oceans more acidic.
  • As a result, the calcification rate of molluscs, plankton and coral decreases, preventing calcareous skeletons and shells from being created and maintained
